1 | Storm The Court | Eurton | 22
The back story is that his sire, Court Vision, won the Remsen and Iroquois at 2, and was 3rd in the Wood Memorial and Fountain of Youth before finishing 13th in the ’08 Kentucky Derby, won by Big Brown. Read more.
2 | Maxfield | Walsh | 10 | |
Could this one finally be Godolphin's homebred that wears the Roses on the first Saturday in May? Currently second on the leader board with 10 points for winning the Breeders' Futurity, this son of 2007 Derby winner Street Sense broke his maiden going 1 mile at Churchill in come from behind fashion. "Slow start" in both victories did not prove a problem. He's 15-1 in the morning line of Future Wager Pool 1, which closes at 6:00 PM ET on Sunday. Read more.
3 | Tiz the Law | Tagg | 10 | |
We know more about this guy after the KYJC on Saturday where he finished a disappointing third as the heavy favorite. But we already know that he's 2 for 2 lifetime and could be Sackatoga Stable's next Derby winner and propel himself into second place on the Derby leaderboard with a win on Stars of Tomorrow day at Churchill. Opened at 20-1 in Future Pool 1.
4 | Eight Rings | Baffert | 10
Heavily bet in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, he failed to build on his previous win in the G1 American Pharoah when he beat the eventual BC Juvenile victor Storm the Court by 8+ lengths. Son of Empire Maker (2nd to Funny Cide in the 2003 Derby), he does not appear to have the stamina for 1 1/4 miles at this point. 10 points and 15-1 to open in Pool 1.
5 | Dennis' Moment | Romans | 10
Heavy favorite to win the Juvenile, he "stumbled badly" at the start, marking the second time in his 4 race career to have trouble competing for a top finish. Won the G3 Iroquois to garner 10 points. 15-1 in Future Wager prospecting. But appears to be overhyped at this point on the Road
6 | Anneau d'Or | Wright | 8 | |
Almost upset the upsetter in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile but couldn't get past the 'Storm' finishing second by a head. Earned 8 points for the effort. Sire Megdalia d'Oro was 4th in the 2002 Derby and competed in each leg of the Triple Crown, with a 2nd place finish to Sarava in the Belmont as his best. Most successful progeny includes the two mares, Rachel Alexandra and Songbird. 20-1 Pool 1 prospect.
7 | Scabbard | Kenneally | 6 | |
Poor guy started career as "Noose" winning his maiden opener by 5 sprinting. He's since finished 2nd twice and 4th in the Juvenile to score 6 points to make the early contenders list. Opens at 50-1 in Future wagering, but breeding says pass.
8 | Wrecking Crew | Miller | 4
At 40-1, he truly was part of the wrecking crew that was the top three finishers in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, when going two-turns for the first time, unlike the others that went before him that day. Breeding suggests the TC trail will be too much for him. But his top 3 finish in the Juvenile was enough to make the board with 4 points. 50-1 and tough to see how he advances.
9 | Green Light Go | Jerkens | 4
Homebred would be 3 for 3, except that he caught Tiz the Law in the Champagne LTO. Son of Hard Spun (2nd in the 2007 Derby) has the flashy style of his father but will need to find endurance to go the distance in the Derby. He probably won't find it on his sire's side as his grandsire, Danzig, is not known for many stamina runners. But there's hope from the other side of the equation as the dams sire, Pleasently Perfect, won three times at the Derby distance. And the grandsire won the 1981 Kentucky Derby and Preakness before finishing third in the Belmont.
10 | Gouverneur Morris | Pletcher | 4
Opened career as the heavy favorite, crushing the competition going 5 1/2 furlongs in the slop at Saratoga. Second to Maxfield in the Breeders' Futurity going two turns for the first time. Sire, Constitution, won the Florida Derby in 2014 and the Donn in /15 and could be considered a Gulfstream specialist - winning 4 of 8 but never away from South Florida. Finished career in 6th place in the JCGC at Belmont. Distance concerns. 20-1 in Future wagers and 4 points on the board.
11 | American Theorem | Papaprodromou | 4
He's 'American' as they come. From 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah's first crop of two years old, he is one of the 20% of his sires progeny to be given a moniker. See the list of some of the named horses published on Brisnet.com last year. Originally named "Comeback," he was a first out winner wearing blinkers at Del Mar. Defeated BC Juvenile winner Storm the Court in the race named after his sire. But skipped the Juvenile with an eye on Louisville down the road. 4 points and 50-1 to open on future wagering.
12 | Big City Bob | Jorge | 2 | |
Sire Shanghai Bobby won the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita in 2012. But the closest he got to the first Saturday in May, and the Kentucky Derby, was a 5th place finish behind eventual 2013 Derby winner Orb, in the Florida Derby. Read more.
