Keeneland Opens Breeders’ Cup Meet with Fall Stars 2015

keeneland-fallstarsKeeneland opens today with the Fall Stars 2015 weekend full of stakes races that include the $250,000 G3 Phoenix Stakes which goes as the 8th race on the Friday opener card. The Phoenix is for 3YO & Up at 6F, and will be followed by the $400,000 G1 Darley Alcibiades Stakes for 2YO fillies going 1 1/16M.

There’s 5 stakes races scheduled for Saturday including the $1 Million Shadwell Turf Mile. In all there are 9 stakes races (5 graded) and over $3 Million in purse money up for grabs at Keeneland this weekend.

Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In”

Both races on Friday are part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” Series Challenge with the winner of the Phoenix earning a spot in the TwinSpires Sprint, and the winner of the Alcibiades punching her ticket into the BC Juvenile Fillies on Breeders’ Cup weekend.

Three of the 5 stakes on Saturday are “Win and You’re In” races.

The winner of the $1 Million Shadwell Turf Mile will automatically be eligible to run in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

The winner of the Thoroughbred of America Stakes will have earned a place in the starting gate for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint.

And the winner of the Claiborne Breeders Futurity can have a go in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

The winners of both stakes races on Sunday will also gain a spot on Breeders’ Cup weekend when the winner of the Dixiana Bourbon will reserve a place in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, while the winner of the G1 Spinster will be eligible for the Longines Distaff.

Race 5 (3:25 p.m.) — $150K Woodford Stakes – 5-1/2 furlongs, turf.

Race 6 (4:00 p.m.) — $250K Thoroughbred of America Stakes – 6 furlongs, dirt

Race 7 (4:35 p.m.) — $400K First Lady Stakes – 1 mile on turf

Race 8 (5:10 p.m.) — $500K Claiborne Breeders Futurity – 1 1/16 on dirt

Race 9 (5:45 p.m.) — $1 Million – Shadwell Turf Mile
