Bio

Arrogate was third in his maiden opener at Los Alamitos in April 2016 but was impressive in victory his next time out going 1 1/16 miles two months later at Santa Anita Park. He followed those efforts with back-to-back wins giving Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert the confidence to send him to Saratoga for the Travers the premier race for three-year-olds at America’s oldest race track in upstate New York.

In the 2016 Travers Stakes, Arrogate set a new track and stakes record for 1 1/4 miles in 1:59.36 and made a name for himself on the world stage of thoroughbred racing on his way to the 2016 Breeders’ Cup Classic and a showdown with California’s hometown hero, California Chrome.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic was then America’s richest race and the showdown with California Chrome for the $6 million prize was expected to go to ‘Chrome’ although the connections and supporters of Arrogate had high hopes off his stunning performance in the Travers.

Turning for home in the Classic, California Chrome had taken a sizeable lead after setting the pace and appeared to be well on his way to victory in mid-stretch. As they reached the quarter pole, Arrogate and jockey Mike Smith had collared California Chrome on his way to a narrow but decisive win.

Arrogate and California Chrome have a date with destiny in the premier running of $12 million Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on January 28 when racing fans will be entertained for the last time by California Chrome who will be making the final start of his illustrious career and Arrogate the rising star of North American racing.
